Earl of Strafford is a title that has been created three times in English and British history. The first creation was in the Peerage of England in for Thomas Wentworth, the close advisor of King Charles I.

He had already succeeded his father as second Baronet of Wentworth Woodhouse in The Wentworth Baronetcy, of Wentworth Woodhouse in the County of York, had been created in the First holder: John Byng, 1st Earl of Strafford. He is the author of thirty-five novels and nonfiction books that deal with the American West. His novel, Song of Wovoka, was a finalist for the Western Writers of America Spur Award for historical fiction/5(9).

It argues that the presence of Sir George Radcliffe, arguably Thomas Wentworth, earl of Strafford's closest advisor, at the royalist court in Oxford was significant in a number of respects.

His surviving correspondence reveals the extent to which he was able to advise and support the newly-appointed lord lieutenant of Ireland, the marquis of Ormond.
